The Practice of Gratitude

September 25, 2024

Hey friends! Today, I want to talk about something that has been transforming my life lately — GRATITUDE. As I reflect on my journey, I realize how blessed I've been. I'm not old by any means, but even at 28, I've lived a life that my 15-year-old self would be thrilled about. If I could go back and tell that kid, “You'll be married to an incredible woman, have an awesome dog, a house with a two-car garage, a great job, a solid group of friends, are plugged into a healthy and spirit-filled church, and have traveled the world,” I know he'd be STOKED.

Yet, for a long time, I found myself dwelling on mistakes, missed opportunities, and those cringe-worthy moments that seem to stay with us far too long. I think we all do this — our minds tend to write our good memories in the sand while carving our failures in stone.

But recently, something has shifted. I've started practicing gratitude, and it's radically changed how I view my life. Most mornings, I spend time journaling, though really, it's more of a prayer — thanking the LORD for who He is, what He's done, and reminding myself of my place in the grand scheme of things. This simple practice humbles me daily and helps me see my life, with all its ups and downs, as a gift from God.

I've found that gratitude doesn't erase past regrets, but it gives me peace with where I am and hope for the future. And that's why I want to challenge you: take a few moments today to reflect on what you're grateful for, and thank the LORD out loud for those things by name. Life is a gift, and the Giver is good.

I promise you won't regret taking that time. I hope you have a fantastic day!

Cheers, Phen
